Cyber jobs in January

Update on the Jobs Market by Neil Collins (January 2022)

Traditionally the Irish jobs market remains quiet in January. Companies tend to take time to get the 'wheels' in motion after the year end break.

This January looks somewhat different! It is noticeable that more vacancies are being advertised than is normal. With 'return to the office' now a possibility for some organisations and remote/hybrid working being mentioned on vacancies, we can expect to see an uptick in business growth plans and ultimately this will lead to more hiring. I post daily lists of suitable roles I come across on a daily basis. Remember to keep an eye on these.

Company spotlight: Ergo
I recently spoke with Maurice White at Ergo (www.ergo.ie). Maurice is their Internal Recruitment Manager. He told me two important things:
1. Ergo are expanding their internal Cyber team in the year ahead. I see that they are currently recruiting for a vacancy at Manager level so expect more junior positions to follow later.
2. Ergo also act as a recruiter for contract and temporary positions required by their customer base.
So my advice is to:
• make sure you monitor vacancies at Ergo
• Consider uploading your CV at https://www.ergogroup.ie/services/it-resourcing.
Be sure to include a reference to CyberQuest on your CV. Remember to call out some of the cyber skills you have learned through the course.

Company spotlight: State Street
Late last year I spoke with Liam Varley, VP Cyber, at State Street. State Street plan to build a new Cyber Fusion Centre on a greenfield site in Kilkenny that is expected to open in 2024. In the interim, they will operate out of temporary premises in Naas, Co. Kildare until the Kilkenny facility opens. They are currently recruiting for a variety of Cyber roles including early career opportunities. Watch out for their notices on Irishjobs.ie and Indeed.

Company Spotlight: eSentire
Hopefully some of you were able to attend last Wednesday's presentation from eSentire. Ciaran Luttrell and his team delivered a truly memorable insight into the daily workings of a SOC. eSentire will be recruiting at SOC Level 1 this year so keep an eye on their vacancy notices.

Company spotlight: PFH
My last spotlight this month is PFH. They have offices in Dublin and Cork. PFH has recruited a number of CyberQuest Foundation + Intermediate path graduates for Service Support/Service Analyst roles during 2021. For those who may not be ready to step immediately into a Cyber role, I recommend considering a Service Support role as an important stepping stone. It will provide you with very practical skills that will be of use when you go to make that upward step into Cyber.

Talk to you again next month. Good luck with your studies and job hunting. Feel free to drop me a note explaining what your cyber job-hunting experiences are like.
